#19 Javelinas Split With Abilene Christian

   Abilene – The 19th ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina softball team earned a road split with defending Lone Star Conference South Division champion Abilene Christian by winning game two 5-3.

   The split leaves the Javelinas at 19-8 overall and 5-1 in league play.

  In game one, Nora Aguilar allowed only 2 hits, but was the hard luck loser as the Javelinas fell 2-0.

   Aguilar, who had won 6 consecutive decisions, gave up a pair of unearned runs in the second, allowing a 2-run single after a two-out error.

   The Javelina offense could muster only 4 hits and only got a runner as far as second one time in the game.

   In the nightcap, the Javelinas exploded for four runs in the third and Natalie Jones closed the door on the Wildcats down the stretch to earn a save.

   Joanna Dorado singled to drive in the first run and Megan Hall blasted a two-out, 3-run home run to give the Javelinas a 4-0 lead.

   Sally Lozano singled to drive in a run in the fourth to give the Javelinas a 5-1 lead, ACU scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth to close within 5-3.

   Jones came on in relief and allowed just one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings to earn the save.

   Aguilar worked the first 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory and improve her record to 10-4.

   The Javelinas and Wildcats will battle in an afternoon doubleheader in Abilene Saturday.
