Javelinas Complete Sweep Of TWU

    Kingsville – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina softball team completed a four-game sweep of Texas Woman’s University with 3-1 and 5-2 victories on Saturday.

   The Javelinas have now won seven in a row and 12 of their last 13 to improve to 25-8 overall and 11-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

   TWU is now 10-20 and 2-6.

   Sally Lozano led the Javelina offense with four hits in five at bats during the twinbill. Cassie Anderson also had three hits in six at bats.

   Lozano finished the four game series with 7 hits in 12 at bats for a .583 average.

   The Javelinas were actually out-hit in the doubleheader, but bunched their hits together for big innings.

   In game one Nora Aguilar (Harlingen) earned her third victory of the series in game one, pitching her 14th complete game of the season, allowing just one run on eight hits, striking out five and walking one to improve to 14-4. She has won 12 of her last 13 decisions with 11 complete games and a 1.12 earned run average.

   For the first time in the series the Javelinas took the lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a run scoring ground out by Quesha Torres.

   TWU tied the game in the third, but the Javelinas bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

   Sally Lozano drove in a run with a single with a second run scoring on an error.

   In the nightcap, the Javelinas had just five hits, but scored four runs in the fourth to earn their third come from behind victory in the series.

   TWU took a 2-0 lead after half an inning and still maintained that lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.

   A&M-Kingsville had just one hit through three innings and had no one on and two outs in the fourth when its offense erupted.

   Kristin Schumann started things with a two-out single, Shaun Bryan and Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice) then walked to load the bases. Freshman Cassie Anderson lined a single off the first baseman’s glove to make it 2-1 and Lozano followed up with a single to right that drove in two with a third run scoring on a throwing error.

   The Javelinas added a run in the fifth on a run scoring triple by Julia Canales (H.M. King).

   Natalie Jones pitched a complete game seven-hitter to improve to 10-4 on the season.
