Aguilar Wins Two, Javelinas Sweep TWU

Kingsville – Sophomore pitcher Nora Aguilar (Harlingen) earned both victories as the Texas A&M-Kingsville swept the Texas Woman’s Pioneers 2-1 and 9-3.

The Javelinas have now won 10 of their last 11 and improve to 23-8 overall and 9-1 in Lone Star Conference South Division play. TWU falls to 10-18 and 2-4.

Aguilar started and won both games, improving to 13-4 on the season, allowing just eight hits and four earned runs in 15 innings.

Quesha Torres and Kristin Schumann combined for seven hits and five runs batted in to lead the Javelina offense.

In the nightcap, the Javelinas had eight consecutive hitters reach base in the fourth, scoring seven runs and overcoming the Pioneers for a 9-3 victory.

TWU scored three in the second to grab a 3-0 lead, but the Javelinas got a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2.

Joanna Dorado singled with two outs, followed by a single by Megan Hall with both runners moving up a base on an error by the left fielder. Quesha Torres then tripled over the center fielder’s head to drive in Dorado and Hall.

The fifth inning began with a leadoff single by Lozano followed by walk to Lozano. Both stole bases and Hall walked to load the bases. Torres doubled to drive in two runs to give the Javelinas their first lead 4-3.

Julia Canales walked and Kristin Schumann followed with a run scoring single. Ma’lia Guerra reached base and drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Ariel Lichtenberger (Alice) then unloaded the bases with a three-run double to cap the seven-run inning.

Aguilar earned the victory in game two, in much the same fashion as game one, surrendering early runs and bearing down in the later innings.

TWU took an early 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning.

Aguilar allowed a solo home run and a run scoring triple with an error allowing the third run to score.

But Aguilar locked down on the Pioneers over the next four innings, allowing just two hits before freshman Morgan Seals worked a scoreless seventh inning to end the game.

In game one, Aguilar gave up just one hit over the final seven innings, retiring 24 of the final 26 batters she faced and Ma’lia Guerra (Falfurrias) drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth to five the Javelinas a 2-1 victory.

She finished the game with eight strikeouts and no walks while allowing just three hits over nine innings to earn the victory.

TWU took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run over the left field fence by Shian Smitherman.

The Pioneers’ only other base runners the rest of the game came on a leadoff single by Rachel Johnson in the fifth and a two out hit batsman in the eighth.

TWU didn’t get a runner past second base over the final seven innings.

The Javelinas tied the game with a run in the fourth. Quesha Torres got things started with a one-out single, then stole second. Julia Canales singled up the middle with Torres advancing to third. Kristin Schumann drove in the run with a fly out to deep left.

Torres singled and stole second with two outs in the sixth, but didn’t score.

Sally Lozano and Cassie Anderson singled with one out in the eight, but were also stranded.

Schumann singled with one out in the ninth and with two out and a 0-2 count, Guerra hammered a double to left center field, scoring Schumann from first with the winning run.
