KINGSVILLE – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas split a doubleheader with seventh ranked Incarnate Word, winning the first game 4-3 in nine innings and dropping the nightcap 9-0.

In the first game, The Javelinas came back from being down early 3-0, forced extra innings and won it in the bottom of the ninth on Cassie Anderson’s hitting the game-winning double.
The Javelinas’ record now stands at 3-3 while the Cardinals are 3-4.
In game one, Julia Canales and Courtney Rigamonti each went two-for-four with an RBI and run scored. Anderson also had two hits with an RBI.
Nora Aguilar was the winning pitcher hurling a complete game giving up one earned run and five hits with a strikeout to even her record at 1-1. After giving three runs in the first two innings, Aguilar shut down the Cardinals for the remainder of the game.
Melissa Perez took the loss for Incarnate Word, dropping her record to 0-3. She allowed an unearned run, two hits, and recorded a strikeout in three innings.
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when clean-up batter Melissa Perez doubled in Erin Whitt with two outs in the inning.
Incarnate Word scored two more runs in the second inning to push their lead to 3-0 in part due to three Javelina errors. Cece Duron led off the inning reaching on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and was able to score on another A&M-Kingsville error. Allison Britt singled in Whitt, who had reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on an error, for the Cardinal’s second run of the inning.
The Javelinas got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Rigamonti led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error. Canales immediately followed that up with a single to bring in Rigamonti. The chance for a big inning was lost though as Canales was left on base.
A&M-Kingsville cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third when Anderson singled to lead off the inning and reached second on a Joanna Dorado sacrifice bunt. After reaching third on a fielder’s choice, Anderson came across the plate on a Rigamonti two-out single.
The Javelinas tied the game, 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth after Canales hit a lead off single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After moving to third on a Natalie Jones pinch-hit, Canales scored on a fielder’s choice with Sally Lozano picking up the RBI.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Anderson hit her double to center that brought in Shaun Bryan who had been placed on second to start the inning due to international tiebreaker rules.
Perez was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals in the second game to improve her record at 1-3 going five innings giving up 3 hits and no runs with five strikeouts.
Jones was the losing pitcher for A&M-Kingsville pitching three innings giving up six hits and five runs with a strikeout.
The Cardinals took the early lead in game two, scoring five times on four hits in the top of the third. Amanda Mayfield led off the inning with a single and Erin Whitt reached on an error with one out. Patty Madera followed that up with a single to score Mayfield. Perez reached on an error that allowed Whitt to score the second run. Ashley Hinojosa hit a single that plated Madera and Perez scored on a groundout. Hinojosa scored the final run of the inning on a Jenny Whitt single to left field.
Incarnate Word added a run in the fifth on a Becky Moritz single that scored Perez.
The Cardinals put up three more runs to make it 9-0 in the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out. The first run came on a Perez groundout that scored Mayfield. Britt scored the second run of the inning on a Morgan Seals wild pitch and Serena Smitham scored the final run on an error.
The Javelinas will play another doubleheader tomorrow against the Cardinals beginning at 2 p.m.
