The Hogs won their fourth in a row to improve to 9-2 while Huston-Tillotson fell to 0-9.
Eight different Javelinas scored at least seven points with senior center Juan Lanauze leading the way with 11. Adan Montalvo had 10 points and Stephen Story came off the bench to score 10 points.
The Javelina bench outscored the Ram bench 43-22.
“I had to take my starters out in the second half because I was upset at them,” said Javelina head coach Pete Peterson. “We are deeper right now and have some experience and that helped us. Every time you show up you have to be ready to play no matter who the opponent is. We play a top NAIA Division I team Sunday night that’s as good as any Division II team in the country.”
A&M-Kingsville will host Xavier of Louisiana Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. The Gold Rush is 10-1 and is ranked #11 in the latest NAIA poll.
The Javelinas shot just over 65 percent from the floor in the second half while holding the Rams to just under 28 percent shooting.
A&M-Kingsville hit a season-high 10 3-point shots, scored a season-high 86 points and out-rebounded Huston-Tillotson 44-34.
Five different players had at least five rebounds for the Hogs led by Story and Lanuaze who each had six.
The Hogs started the second half sluggish, hitting just one of their first four shots as the Rams cut an 11-point halftime deficit down to six, 45-39 less than four minutes into the final 20 minutes.
Newcomer Chad Nelson, playing in his first game since transferring from A&M-Corpus Christi, came off the bench to spark a 16-4 run that gave the Hogs control of the game.
Nelson hit all three of his shots from the floor and grabbed two rebounds as the Hogs increased their lead to 18, 61-43 with 10:49 left in the game.
Freshmen Quintin Moses and Justin Ledet also contributed to the run with Moses hitting a 3-point shot and Ledet scoring on a fastbreak layup.
The Rams would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the game.
After making just one of their first six shots from the floor to start the game, the Javelinas got rolling, hitting their next seven shots from the floor to take a 22-8 lead just seven minutes into the game.
Adan Montalvo, Reggie Love and Stephen Story combined to make four 3-point shots in a row.
But the Hogs went back into a slight shooting slump, again hitting just one of their next six shots as the Rams pulled to within four, 24-20 with 9:04 left in the half.
The lead was just three, 32-29, with 4:44 left in the half, but the Javelinas closed the half on a 10-2 run to grab a 42-31 halftime advantage.
The late run was started by a pair of free throws by Montalvo, followed by a 3-point shot by Lee, a 3-point play by Lanuaze and a layup by freshman Justin Ledet.
The Hogs shot 50 percent in the first half, hitting 15 of 30 shots from the floor and dominated the Rams on the glass, out-rebounding them 22-10.
