Hogs Win Again, Head Into Break With 8-2 Record After Victory At Incarnate Word

Peterson Beats Former School For 8th Straight Time

San Antonio -- Naquawn Lee scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina men's basketball to a 78-67 victory at Incarnate Word Thursday night.  Click here for stats.

The win improved the Javelinas' record to 8-2 while Incarnate Word is 4-5.

Lee, point guard Wendell Mulkey and center Stephen Story, all playing in their hometown, combined for 44 points.

Mulkey had 13 points, 9 assists and 2 steals while Story came off the bench to score 13 points in 14 minutes of action.

Clyde Johnson had 12 points and Reggie Love added 10 for the Hogs.

The Javelinas swept the season series from the Cardinals and have won eight in a row in the series.

Three nights after hitting just 17 of 32 free throws in an overtime win over Texas A&M-International, the Hogs made 20 of 22 attempts from the free throw line.

Defensive pressure was again one of the keys to victory for A&M-Kingsville as they forced 22 turnovers while turning the ball over just 9 times.

"It feels good to win on the road against a Division II team in our region," said Javelina head coach Pete Peterson, an Incarnate Word assistant for 10 years before become the Javelinas' head coach in 1997.  "Our San Antonio guys played well in front of their friends and family.  Wendell played well, Stephen had to work hard for his points and Naquawn really stepped up tonight.  If we shoot free throws like we did tonight, we'll be tough to beat."

The Javelinas will return to action next Saturday, December 29th, when they host the Texas A&M-Kingsville Holiday Tournament.
