Javelinas Close With A Flourish, Beat Angelo State 47-21

  Kingsville – Redshirt freshman quarterback Daniel Ramirez (Sinton) threw for 272 yards and four touchdowns as the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas beat the Angelo State Rams 47 to 21 in the season finale for both teams.  Click here for stats.
   The win improved the Javelinas record to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the Lone Star Conference. Angelo State finished 2-8 and 1-5 in league play.
   Ramirez, playing his first game at Javelina Stadium, completed 23 of 32 passes without an interception.
   Senior running back Raymorris Miller just posted his 10th career 100-yard rushing game with 102 yards on 22 carries and also caught five passes for 51 yards.
   Angelo State quarterback Josh Neiswander completed 13 of 28 passes for 186 yards and two scores, but also threw three interceptions.
   It was the most points scored by the Javelinas in a regulation game since a 60-6 win over Texas College to open the 2005 season.
   The Javelina offense surpassed the 400-yard mark for the third consecutive game, finishing with 473 yards.
   The Javelina defense also came up big in the clutch, stopping Angelo State six times on the A&M-Kingsville side of the 50-yard line without a score.
   Leading 37-14 at the half, the Javelina defense forced the Rams to turn the ball over on downs at the A&M-Kingsville 27 yard line. It was the second time the Hog defense stopped the Rams on fourth down inside their own 35-yard line.
   After the Javelina turned the ball over at their own 36-yard line, senior safety Clayton Cretors got the ball right back, picking off a pass at the Hog 28-yard line.
   The Javelina offense drove 68 yards in seven plays with Ramirez throwing his fourth touchdown pass, a 20-yard strike to Dante Higgins with 4:21 left in the third quarter to increase the lead to 44-14.
   Rod Mosley stopped another Ram drive deep in Javelina territory, intercepting a pass in the end zone. It was his second interception of the game and seventh of the season.
   The Javelina defense did it to the Rams again on the next drive, holding them on fourth down at the Javelina 28-yard line.
   It was the fourth time the Hog defense stopped the Rams inside the A&M-Kingsville 35-yard line without allowing any points.
   On fourth and four from the Javelina 35-yard line, A&M-Kingsville punter Cody Smith ran 34 yards for a first down. It was the second successful run on a fake punt for Smith in the game.
   Freshman kicker Christian Brom capped the drive with a 29-yard field goal to give the Hogs a 47-14 lead with 10 minutes left in the game.
   Angelo State backup quarterback Jay Immel scored on a one-yard sneak with 6:38 left in the game to cut the Javelina lead to 47-21.
   In his first drive as a quarterback at Javelina Stadium, Ramirez led A&M-Kingsville on an 11-play, 80-yard drive that he capped off with a one yard touchdown run to give the Javelinas a 7-0 lead.
   Ramirez accounted for all 80 yards of total offense on the drive, completing 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards and had two carries for 19 yards, including an 18-yard run on an option play.
   It was the fourth time this year the Javelinas had scored a touchdown on their opening possession.
   Angelo State drove to the Javelina 33-yard line on their first drive, but Clayton Cretors made a sure handed tackle of Charles Amos after he caught a pass from Neiswander for only a one yard gain and the Rams turned it over on downs.
   On fourth and one from the Javelina 40-yard line, Hog punter Cody Smith ran 21 yards on a fake punt to the Ram 38-yard line.
   Ramirez had a 15-yard run on second down to the Ram 20-yard line and two plays later hit Rony Perard on an 11-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 with 2:14 left in the first quarter.
   It was Perard’s fourth touchdown reception of the season, tying him for the team lead.
   The 14 points was the most scored by the Javelinas in first quarter this season.
   On the Hogs first drive of the third quarter senior Raymorris Miller capped off a 65-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0. It was his fourth rushing touchdown this season and the 18th rushing touchdown of his career.
   On second and 17 from the Ram 45, Ramirez completed a 23 yard pass to George Reyes. Two plays later Miller ran up the middle for the score.
   Angelo State responded with their first score of the game, a 37-yard touchdown pass from Neiswander to Sam Tindol to cut the Javelina lead to 21-7 with just over nine minutes left in the half.
   The Javelinas then got a safety when the snap on fourth down went over Ram punter Jeff Jones’ head and he kicked it out of the end zone to make it 23-7 Hogs with just over five minutes left in the half.
   After the free kick following the safety, the Hogs started on their own 47-yard line.
   On third and five from the Ram 11-yard line, Ramirez threw his second touchdown pass of the half to Chase Nesbitt to give the Hogs a 30-7 lead.
   Rod Mosley then picked off his sixth pass of the season at the Javelina 29-yard line and returned it to the 45 with 31 seconds left in the half.
   On the first play after the interception, Ramirez completed a 35-yard pass to John Reeves to the ASU 20-yard line. On the next play Martin Carrion made a leaping catch in the corner of the end zone to make it 37-7. 
   Angelo State actually scored the final points of the half on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Neiswander to Chris Fowler with six seconds left to make it 37-14.
      Ramirez finished the half with 17 completions in 23 attempts, three touchdowns and 219 yards. He also had 34 yards rushing and one score.
   The Javelinas set season-highs for most points (37) and yards (320) in the first half.
