Javelinas Fall to Midwestern State

KINGSVILLE – The Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas fell to the Midwestern State Mustangs 30-23, 30-17, 28-30 and 30-21.
The loss leaves the Javelinas at 11-10 for the season and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference matches.
The Mustangs improved to 22-3 and 6-1 in LSC play.
“We needed to come out and play hard,” coach Shannon Alvarado said. “They’re a good team and we couldn’t come out and play tentative.”
Sha Tramble led A&M-Kingsville in kills with 11.
Heidi Scheopner had 22 assists to lead the team while Kirby Krueger added 16.
Tara Grier led the team in digs with 26. Scheopner had 11 digs with Tramble recording 10.
Allison Schreiber had a triple-double for Midwestern State. She registered 10 kills, 51 assists and 15 digs.
Sesley Graves led four Mustanges with double-digit figures in kills with 15. Whitney Maxwell and Alysha Pritt both had 14.
Shay Vazquez had 20 digs to lead Midwestern State while Rachel Gilmore recorded 10.
“They don’t make many mistakes,” Alvarado said. “We needed to take advantage of their mistakes and stop them from getting on a roll. We didn’t do a very good job of that tonight.”
The Javelinas will host the Cameron Aggies on Saturday at 2 p.m.
