Edmond, Okla. – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina volleyball team had its chances, but couldn’t capitalize in a 3-1 loss at LSC co-leader Central Oklahoma Thursday night. Click here for stats.
The loss dropped the Javelinas to 10-9 overall and 3-4 in LSC play while the Bronchos improved to 22-4 and 5-0 in league action.
“We just didn’t take advantage of our opportunities,” said Javelina head coach Shannon Alvarado. “We won game one and had chances in games two and four, we just couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities.”
The Javelinas won game one 30-24, but lost the next three 30-25, 30-18 and 30-26. The Javelinas had a 26-25 lead in game four before the Bronchos won the final five points to win the match.
The Javelinas had 13 more attacks, but four fewer kills.
Freshman Sha Tramble (Houston Clear Brook) led the Javelinas with 16 kills, but was the only player in double figures. Senior Heidi Scheopner (Harlingen South) led the team with 28 assists while sophomore Tara Grier (Poth) had 24 digs.
The Javelinas will attempt to climb back to the .500 mark in league play and conclude their five-match road swing Saturday afternoon at Southwestern Oklahoma.
