Javelinas Drop Tough Five Game Match At ASU

The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas lost their first five-game match of the season, falling to Angelo State 24-30, 30-28, 30-15, 28-30, 15-10 Saturday afternoon in San Angelo.
   The Javelinas are now 3-9 and 0-2 while Angelo State improves to 3-10, 1-1.
   Kristena Herrera (Houston Cypress Ridge HS) had her best match of the season with 16 kills, only one error and a hitting percentage of .469. She also had seven digs.
   Chelsea Zunker (New Braunfels Canyon HS) had 10 kills while Kirby Krueger (New Braunfels Canyon HS) led the team with 20 assists.
   The Javelinas came out on fire, hitting .214 in winning the first game. The Javelinas jumped out to a 14-5 lead with four of those points coming on Herrera’s serve and three on the serve of Zunker.
   Angelo cut the lead to three, 17-14, but the Javelinas scored 13 of the final 23 points of the game to take game one.
   Angelo State dominated the next two games as the Javelinas had just 13 kills to 28 errors.
   Down two games to one, the Javelinas rallied to win a tight fourth game.
   With the match tied at 27, the Rambelles committed two errors and Krueger ended the game with a kill.
   In the decisive game five, the Javelinas trailed 7-4, cut the lead to 9-8, but the Rambelles scored six of the final eight points to win the match.
