Javelina Women Fall In Overtime 71-62

Ada, Okla. – After getting blown out at home in their last outing the Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team bounced back, but couldn’t overcome poor shooting in overtime, falling to East Central 71-62.

Freshman guard Dyana Bullinger rebounded from a poor performance her last time out against Central Oklahoma to score a team-high 15 points.

Bullinger made 4-of-5 3-point shots Thursday night after hitting just 1-of-7 shots from the field against UCO.

The Javelinas had to play the final two minutes of regular and all of the overtime without Bullinger after she fouled out.

Angela Trotter added 14 points and six offensive rebounds while Lana Toki had her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Freshman point guard Kayla Naylor (Calallen) had a career-high eight assists to go along with nine points.

The loss dropped the Javelinas to 2-5 while East Central improved to 4-1.

The Javelinas led 26-23 at halftime, but the game was never more than a five-point contest the entire second half.

Trotter hit a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 53.

East Central had the final shot to win the game in regulation, but couldn’t convert.

The Tigers owned the overtime as they made 4-of-5 shots from the floor and 9-of-10 shots from the free throw line.  The Javelinas made just 3-of-14 shots from the floor in the overtime period.

“It was a real physical game,” said Javelina head coach Dina Kangas.  “We said we weren’t going to let them beat us on the inside.  They hit some shots from the outside and you’ve got to give them credit for that.  We played hard for 45 minutes, but we were 3-for-14 in overtime.  We were happy with their effort, we’ve just got to take better shots.”

The Javelinas return to action Friday night at Southeastern Oklahoma before taking a break for final exams.
