Stephenville – The Texas A&M Javelina volleyball team fell to Tarleton State in three games Friday night in their final Lone Star Conference match of the season.
The TexAnns beat the Javelinas 30-26, 30-22, 37-35 to improve to 13-13 and 6-4 in the LSC. Texas A&M-Kingsville falls to 8-21 and 3-7 in league play.
Freshman Kristin Chancellor (Bellville) continued her strong late-season play by leading the Javelinas with 13 kills. Freshman Chelsea Zunker (New Braunfels Canyon) had nine kills and a .300 hitting percentage while freshman Adina Gray (Corpus Christi Flour Bluff) added nine kills.
Junior Heidi Scheopner (Harlingen South) had 25 assists, four block assists, and eight digs while freshman Tara Grier had 17 digs.
The Javelinas ran out to a 7-4 lead in game one and still led 15-13 before Tarleton State 5-0 run to grab the lead for good.
That momentum carried over to game two as the TexAnns ran out to a 5-1 lead and never trailed.
In game three, the Javelinas grabbed a 14-9 lead, Tarleton rallied to tie the match at 18, but the Javelinas bounced back to grab a 26-21 advantage.
With the game tied at 31, Tarleton State served for the match three times, but the Javelinas held them off each time and grabbed a 35-34 advantage.
A Tarleton State kill and consecutive hitting errors by the Javelinas ended the match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will conclude its season Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. match at Incarnate Word.
