Omar Gonzalez

Omar Gonzalez is entering his third season as the head coach for the men's basketball program for Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Gonzalez, who was an assistant coach for the Javelinas under former head coach and Javelina Hall of Famer Johnny Estelle, is the 17th head coach in program history. He has helped the Javelinas reach four NCAA Division II tournaments (2017, 2020, 2022, 2023), the first NCAA Tournament victory in Javlinas’ history in the 2017 NCAA Division II tournament and has coached 23 all-conference selections for the Lone Star Conference.

Prior to joining Texas A&M-Kingsville, Gonzalez was a basketball manager at UTEP before becoming the head manager at the University of Houston. He was brought on as a graduate assistant for the Javelinas coaching staff for the 2014-15 season before becoming an assistant coach at Blinn College for the 2017-18 season.

After his brief stint at Blinn, Gonzalez made his return to Kingsville as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season and has been with the Javelinas ever since.

Gonzalez received a Bachelor's of Kinesiology and Sports Administration in 2014 from the University of Houston. He is married to Tanya Allen-Gonzalez and has one daughter named Mila. He currently resides in Kingsville.
