Omar Gonzalez

Omar Gonzalez is entering his fourth season as the head coach for the men's basketball program for Texas A&M-Kingsville.

In his time as Head Coach of the Javelina Men's Basketball Program, Coach Gonzalez has accrued 30 wins and developed six all-conference selections for the Lone Star Conference. The Javelinas have had exceptional performances under Coach Gonzalez in his time with the Javelinas, including two wins over top-ten ranked opponents over the past two seasons (12/14/24 vs No. 2 WT, 2/21/25 vs No. 9 ENMU).

Of the six players Gonzalez has developed into all-conference athletes, three have been selected to the third-team (C.J. Smith, Isaiah Payne, Allen Singleton), two have been honorable mentions (Bryson Goldsmith, Bryce Smith) and one was selected to the All-freshman team (Jadon Sautter).

Before becoming the head coach for Javelina Men's Basketball, Gonzalez was the assistant coach the Javelina Hall of Famer Johnny Estelle. As an assistant, he helped the Javelinas reach four NCAA Division II tournaments (2017, 2020, 2022, 2023) and the first NCAA Tournament victory in Javlinas’ history in the 2017 NCAA Division II tournament.

Prior to joining Texas A&M-Kingsville, Gonzalez was a basketball manager at UTEP before becoming the head manager at the University of Houston. He was brought on as a graduate assistant for the Javelinas coaching staff for the 2014-15 season before becoming an assistant coach at Blinn College for the 2017-18 season.

After his brief stint at Blinn, Gonzalez made his return to Kingsville as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season and has been with the Javelinas ever since.

Gonzalez received a Bachelor's of Kinesiology and Sports Administration in 2014 from the University of Houston. He is married to Tanya Allen-Gonzalez and has one daughter named Mila. He currently resides in Kingsville.
