Cundiff joined the Javelina coaching staff ahead of the 2015 season. His first year on staff was spent as the special teams assistant coach before he added the role of tight ends and full backs coach in 2016.
Cundiff added the role of recruiting coordinator in lieu of his special teams duties during the 2020 season and swapped his tight ends coaching position for the running backs ahead of 2021.
The 2020 season was adjusted due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic as the Javelina tight end corps picked up three catches for 33 yards in the two games during the spring, all during the 45-34 loss to Midwestern State on March 6.
The 2019 campaign featured Donte Ross (return specialist), Karch Kaspar (punter) and Clay Englehardt (defensive specialist) pick up All-LSC honorable mention citations. Ross turned in several electric performances on the year as he ran the first punt back for a touchdown in nearly a decade with a 48-yard return against Eastern New Mexico on September 28 as he finished with 22 returns for 289 yards on the season.
Kaspar averaged 40.7 yards per punt during the season on 57 tries, with 15 pinned inside the 20 and another 12 going for over 50 yards. He took his snaps from Englehardt who spent the season as the long snapper for the special teams unit.
2018 saw Torrey Thomas (tight end) add his third All-LSC selection as he finally was named First Team All-LSC, while Julio De La Garza (place kicker) ended up with his fourth selection by being named to the honorable mention team.
Thomas compiled 11 catches for 217 yards and two scores in the season. De La Garza wrapped up his Blue and Gold career in impressive fashion as he finished 2018 by going 9-for-15 on field goals attempts with a long of 45 in the season opener against the defending NCAA Division II National Champions in A&M-Commerce. He also averaged 57.5 yards per kickoff on 54 tries and added a 36.1 yards per punt average with 24 pinned inside the 20 and another five going for over 50 yards.
2017 included Stehly Reden’s (tight end) second All-LSC nominations as he was named First Team All-LSC for his efforts during the year. Torrey Thomas (full back) added his second All-LSC nod, this one coming on the honorable mention squad, and was joined by Julio De La Garza (place kicker) and George Rios (defensive specialist).
Reden completed the year with 18 catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns as he battled injuries but still managed to make an appearance in six contests that year. Thomas’ efforts led the ground game to 1,432 yards and 12 touchdowns with Nick Pelrean gathering an All-LSC honorable mention accolade.
De La Garza completed his year with an 11-for-15 look on field goal attempts, including a season long of 44 yards in the season opener against Central Washington on September 2, and averaged 57.8 yards on 54 kickoffs during the year.. Rios, meanwhile, anchored the special teams as a long snapper as the punt squad averaged 36.1 yards per punt with 18 pinned inside the 20 and another seven going for over 50 yards.
The 2016 season featured Stehly Reden as a Second Team All-LSC selection for the Javelinas as a tight end, while Torrey Thomas (full back) and Julio De La Garza (place kicker) rounded out the offensive side of the All-LSC second team. Anthony Autry (return specialist) rounded out the postseason awards with an All-LSC honorable mention, while Reden went on to be name D2CCA All-Super Region IV second team.
Reden’s 2016 season included 22 catches for 397 yards and eight scores, while Thomas’ efforts paved the way for 2,163 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground with Luis Lopez eventually named All-LSC honorable mention as a result. De La Garza demonstrated his prowess on field goals by going 11-for-14 with a season long of 47 against Midwestern State on September 17, while Autry returned 12 kickoffs for a total of 300 yards and a long of 64 against Eastern New Mexico on October 29.
The 2015 year saw two Javelina specialists named to the All-LSC honorable mention team. Julio De La Garza and Nick Pelrean both landed on the team as a placekicker and return specialist, respectively. De La Garza went 10-for-14 on field goal attempts that year, including a long of 49 against Eastern New Mexico on October 3, while Pelrean compiled 426 kick return yards on 15 attempts with a long of 67 yards on October 13 against Midwestern State.
Before he came to Kingsville, Cundiff spent a year working for Wood Group as an oil and gas-measurement technician from 2013 to 2014 following a stint as a substitute teacher at Northside ISD.
The son of former Javelina head coach Richard Cundiff (2000-06), Cundiff graduated from UTSA in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in communications.
While at UTSA, Cundiff was a member of the inaugural Roadrunner football team from 2010 to 2012 as a punter and placekicker before graduating with a B.A. in English and minor in communications.
