Detmer joined the Javelina coaching staff in 2020 as the running backs coach before moving into his current role as the wide receivers coach for the 2021 season.
The 2020 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the Javelinas played two games in an abbreviated spring schedule in 2021. The Javelina running back corps finished with 179 yards and three scores between the two games, led by 82 yards from Amonte Bowen, and 67 yards from Christian Anderson, as Bowen, Craig Clemons, and Roger Hagan were each responsible for one touchdown in the game against Midwestern State on March 6
Detmer finished his collegiate playing career for the Javelinas in 2019 as he spent the last two years as a quarterback for the program. He finished with 3,831 passing yards on a 59% rate with 32 scores in his two seasons. His first year in 2018 ended with 2,347 yards and 21 scores as he was eventually named All-LSC honorable mention for his efforts.
Detmer owns a handful of records in program history for the Javelinas as he threw for 450 yards on a 37-for-65 clip in a 45-33 loss to No. 4 Tarleton on October 26, 2019. It was only the second time a Javelina quarterback threw for at least 450 yards as he tied the program record for pass attempts, broke the record for pass completions and fell seven yards shy of the single-game record for passing yards.
Deter finished his bachelor’s degree from TAMUK in 2020.
