Former Javelina All-American Jaime Martinez is in his 12th season overall at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

In his first season as the running backs/full backs coach last year, Matinez had one All-LSC athlete in full back Danny Ramirez and achieved an honorable mention shout out in running back Greg Pitre who led the team with 744 rushing yards and 397 reception yards.

Martinez began his 10th season as the offensive lines coach and recruiting coordinator for the Javelinas, before taking over as the interim head coach on Oct. 13, 2014.

As interim head coach, Martinez led the Javelinas to a win in the inaugural Lone Star Conference Championships, defeating McMurry University, 41-16. Under his wing, junior offensive lineman Christian Garcia earned an All-LSC honorable mention selection for the second consecutive season, and freshman linebacker Trevor Moses, junior running back Shawn Vasquez and cornerback Kelechi Amushie joined Garcia on the honorable mention squad. Trevor Pesek was named to the LSC All-Academic Team and became the eighth player in Javelina history to earn a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II First Team.

In 2013, Martinez was influential in the growth of Christian Garcia as the sophomore was selected All-Lone Star Conference honorable mention. Working with a relatively new offensive line after a 2012 season that ended with an appearance in the Kanza Bowl, the Javelinas earned back-to-back victories to begin the 2013 campaign under first-year head coach David Calloway.

Martinez was forced to juggle the offensive line in 2011, but the unit blocked for a running back that rushed for over 1,000 yards and an offense that averaged over 450 yards per game.

As a recruiting coordinator, Martinez helped bring in the largest class under former head coach’s Bo Atterberry's tenure in February of 2012.

In 2010, Martinez had a trio of seniors, but injuries forced some mixing and matching that eventually led to a four-game stretch where they allowed just one sack. Two lineman earned All-LSC South Second Team honors and one appeared on the honorable mention list.

Martinez had a veteran group of linemen (two seniors and three juniors) to work with in 2009 and it showed as the unit blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher and 2,500-yard passer for the first time in school history. As a group, they allowed just 14 sacks and did not give up any sacks in half of the team’s games despite 418 throwing attempts. Left guard Markeith Wesley earned Third Team Football Gazette All-America honors and left tackle Jorge Guerra earned Second Team Daktronics Super Region Four honors. Four of the five starters earned All-LSC South honors.

In 2008, Martinez’s line showed great improvement. The line provided protection for a school record setting passing offense. The team attempted 430 passes and was sacked just 22 times while averaging 298.7 yards passing per game, 12th best in the nation. Additionally, the line cleared the way for running back Billy Martin to rush for over 150 yards on two occasions. Under Martinez’s tutelage, Markeith Wesley earned First Team All-LSC South and second team all-region honors and Jorge Guerra grabbed an honorable mention LSC South nod.

In 2007, Martinez molded a group of young players and newcomers into a cohesive unit.

In 2006 Martinez coached yet another offensive lineman to All-America honors as John Cook earned first team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association.

In 2005 two of his linemen earned All-Lone Star Conference honors. James Cardenas was named second team All-LSC, while Van Nelson earned honorable mention honors.

Martinez, a native of nearby Beeville, was a standout for the Javelinas from 1992-95 on the offensive line. He was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection. He earned first team All-America honors as a junior and senior. The Javelinas won four Lone Star Conference Championships, went 21-0 in LSC play, posted a 39-13 overall record, advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals three times and advanced to the NCAA championship game once.

Prior to returning to Kingsville he spent five years as the offensive line and special teams coach at Granger High School. He also served as the offensive line coach at Medina Valley High School in Castroville.

He is married to the former Marisa Fancher of Albany, Ore., a former Javelina volleyball player. They have a daughter, Maya and a son, Rylee and reside in Bishop, Texas.
