Akers joined the Javelina football staff ahead of the 2021 fall season.
Akers joins the Kingsville staff after spending the COVID 2020 season as an Offensive Analyst for Liberty University. While at LU, he was responsible for charting practice and breaking down film.
Before his time at Liberty, Akers spent a season at Eastern Kentucky as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach. There he worked with the 20th-ranked offensive in Division I FCS, broke down film on weekly opponents and assisted with game day adjustments by charting defensive fronts, stunts and blitzes.
Akers started his coaching career as a Tight Ends Coach at Montana Tech for a year. There he also assisted with the offensive line and film breakdowns along with running the scout defense and assisting with special teams.
Akers graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Greenville in 2018.
