Daniel Oelschlegel returns for his 4th season with the Javelinas. His 2012 season was a very successful one as the running backs position group found the end zone 10 times and accounted for a combined average of 228.2 all purpose yards per game on the year. One of his running backs emerged as an All-Conference performer before going on to sign a contract to play in the CFL. In previous seasons, specifically 2011, Oelschlegel coached one of his running backs – Jonathan Woodson – to an All-American first team and a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy.Â
Before switching to running backs, Oelschlegel coached the Tight Ends for the Javelinas.Â
Oelschlegel is responsible for recruiting Corpus Christi and the surrounding area, and also everything east of San Antonio and Austin, to everything west of Houston throughout the state of Texas.Â
Prior to joining the Javelina coaching staff in 2010, Oelschlegel was a recruiting assistant at Texas A&M University under Dennis Franchione for one year, and Mike Sherman for three years. Oelschlegel played a major role in helping to recruit many Aggie football players. Some of the notables he helped recruit were NFL draft picks, Von Miller, Cyrus Gray, Luke Joeckel, Ryan Swope, Christine Michael and Sean Porter. He also helped to recruit current Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Manziel.Â
Oelschlegel’s brother, Sam Oelschlegel, is the defensive backs coach at Bastrop High School where he coached two of his backs in 2012 to Division 1scholarships, one at Texas Tech University, and the other at the University of Texas.
Daniel is native to South Texas where he played under Texas high school coaching legend, Phil Danaher at Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, TX. He graduated from Calallen in 2004. Oelschlegel went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 2010 with a University Studies-Business degree. He then recently finished his master’s degree at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in Counseling and Guidance in 2013.Â
He is married to his wife Alyson who is also from Calallen.
