Biography

Beginning his final season with the Javelinas, Armstrong is in the process of rewriting the receiving portion of the record book. He enters the season in the top ten of nearly every career mark. Through three seasons, Armstrong, who has six, 100-yard receiving games, is sixth in receiving yards with 2,065 and is fourth with 163 career receptions. Most impressively, Armstrong is third in all-time touchdown receptions with 25 and is five behind Glenn Starks and Dwight Harrison at 30. He trails only Jareko Taylor in receptions per game with just under five a game with 4.94 catches. Taylor averaged six catches. 2012: Armstrong had a sensational junior season earning Lone Star Conference Co-Receiver of the Year and first-team All-LSC honors. He set a single-season mark for receptions with 67 surpassing Taylor’s record of 66 set in 2008. Armstrong, who hauled in 11 TD passes, added 849 receiving yards which is the eighth highest in a campaign. The junior finished his third year with a flourish. He had 30 catches in the final five games with seven touchdowns. Armstrong had three 100-plus yards in each of the final games with five scores. He caught four passes for 137 yards against Valdosta State with two scores and a season-long catch of 94 yards. He followed that up against Eastern New Mexico with six catches for 144 yards and three TDs, and concluded the year with 10 receptions for 109 yards versus Emporia State. 2011: Armstrong was named LSC First Team at wide receiver. He started the first nine games of the year, but was injured on the first drive at Angelo State and missed the rest of the year. He was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of touchdowns at Central Washington in the first week of the season. He had a receiving touchdown in each of the first six games of the year and finished with 51 catches for 626 yards and 10 TDs. He had five catches for 103 yards and two scores in a win over Minot State. He caught seven passes for 98 yards and two TDs against West Texas at Cowboys Stadium. He had a career-high 10 catches for 175 yards in a win over A&M-Commerce. He finished fourth in the LSC in receptions per game and sixth receiving yards per game. 2010: Armstrong earned LSC South Honorable Mention honors as a redshirt freshman. He scored his first career touchdown on a 7-yard reverse against Commerce and had two scores in the game. He had at least one catch in every game, including a season-high seven receptions and one TD against Northwest Missouri State in the playoffs. He scored twice against #7 West Texas A&M on catches of 25 and 27 yards. He had a game-winning 62-yard reception at Angelo State with 1:44 left. He finished the game with 100 yards receiving. He led the team with six TD receptions on the year. 2009: Armstrong redshirted his first year. High School: Armstrong played both wide receiver and corner back for the Gobblers. He earned 3A all-state honors at both positions while also earning First Team all-district, all-area and all-region honors. He made 63 catches for 1,128 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. As a junior, he made 54 catches for 1,017 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is on the all-time career receptions and receiving yards lists in Texas. He led Cuero to back-to-back state semi-final appearances. He was an academic all-district selection. He earned third team all-state honors in basketball and was the Offensive MVP of the District. He played in the Texas Roundup All-Star as a senior. In track, he was a member of two Texas 3A state championship teams. He had personal bests of 6-8 in the high jump and 23-2 in the long jump. He was also a member of the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400-meter relay teams. Personal: Armstrong is the son of Deborah Armstrong and is studying sociology with a minor in criminology.
