Denton - In the final regular season doubleheader of its season, the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team split with the Texas Woman's Pioneers, winning 5-3 in game one before falling 5-2 in game two, finishing its regular season at 32-18 overall and 27-13 in Lone Star Conference play.
The season is far from over for the Javelinas, however, as they will now look ahead to their trip to Canyon for the LSC Tournament this coming weekend. Though the official bracket release is still pending, Kingsville has lined itself up for a matchup with the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in the Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday.
TAMUK's 27 in-conference wins are the most in program history, and its 32 (and counting) overall wins are the most since 2022.
Game Summaries
Game one of the matchup was dominated by defense, with six of the contest's seven total runs were scored in just one inning. The Javelinas notched a four spot in the top of the third, breaking the scoreless tie and giving the road team a lead it would not surrender, despite TWU putting up a pair of runs in the home side of the third.
Junior 1B
Dakota Martinez began the game's scoring with an RBI triple, the third three-bagger of her season. Not long after, junior CF
Seleste Compian and freshman 2B
Victoria Vargas each drove in runs to help Kingsville take a commanding lead. In the top of the seventh, Martinez struck again, this time going deep over the centerfield wall for the 10th home run of her season.Â
Senior RHP
Andrea Martinez (W, 14-8) pitched a complete-game win, the 10th CG of her season. Though she allowed a lot of activity on the base paths, she was magnificent with her back against the wall, forcing TWU to strand 12 runners in the game.
Offense was a struggle in game two for Kingsville, as the team did not scratch its first runs until the fifth inning. In that fifth, it was freshman SS
Ella Srubar who put the Hogs on the board for the first time, knocking a two-run bomb over the centerfield wall, pulling her squad to within one. The home run is the seventh of the year for Srubar, who has the third-most HRs on the team.Â
Kingsville was unable to get anything else going, however, as the Pioneers held on to their late lead and got the win, closing out both teams' regular seasons.Â
