Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville team now owns the program's longest winning streak since 2022 following a pair of dominant wins over the Pioneer from Texas Woman's on Friday.
The Javelinas got a one-run complete game performance from senior RHP
Andrea Martinez in game one, guiding Kingsville to a 3-1 win, before the team exploded into the second half of the doubleheader, finishing the game in just five innings with a score of 9-1. TAMUK stays undefeated in Lone Star Conference play at 4-0, one of just two teams in the conference with that record.
Kingsville posted six total extra-base hits on the evening, including a pair of two-run homers in the third inning of game two. Seven different Hogs have now hit a homer this year (three have multiple).
Martinez put together her second straight fantastic outing, pitching all seven innings, while allowing three hits, two walks, and just one run while striking out three. Her and the Kingsville defense locked down from the game's first pitch, including a double play turned by junior C
Maria Valls Raya, that wiped away one of TWU's two total base runners through the first four innings.
Nearly the entire contest saw Martinez pitching with a lead after the Javelinas plated a pair in the bottom of the first courtesy of an RBI double from sophomore SS
Megan Geyer and a sacrifice fly from junior DP
Dakota Martinez. Though the Pioneers cut their deficit in half in the top of the fifth, TAMUK was quick to grab the run back with a sac fly from freshman LF
Victoria Vargas that put the final score on the board.
Kingsville picked up where it left off and then some in the second game, as its bats got red hot, scoring in each of the game's final four innings, including seven combined runs between the second and third frames. TAMUK did its work early, getting its leadoff batter aboard in each of the game's five innings. From there, the team had no problem bringing them home, with sophomore RF
Lainee Ballin starting the party in the second with an RBI double. Not long after, a sacrifice bunt attempt from senior CF
Seleste Compian led to an error that scored Ballin, and another sac fly from Vargas brought sophomore 2B
Alexis Soliz home.Â
The deep ball was the name of the game in the third, with two-run bombs from both freshman DP
Kennia Chong and junior UTL
Audri Castillo breaking the game wide open. After an RBI single from D. Martinez in the fourth, and an RBI double from sophomore OF
Jolyn Perez in the bottom of the fifth, the run rule came into effect, finishing the game just four and a half innings.
Kingsville will be putting its winning streak to the test on Sunday as they host the reigning National Champion UT-Tyler Patriots in a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
