Kingsville - Hosting the No.4-ranked team in the country, the Texas A&M - Kingsville softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 18-3 and 7-0, with UT-Tyler.
Despite the score, the teams played five innings of tight, back-and-forth ball in the first game, but the Patriots proved too much on both sides of the ball, coming away with a pair of wins.
Graduate student outfielder
Lindsey Evans had the day's only multi-hit game for Kingsville, going 2-3 with an RBI in game one.
After yielding three runs in the first inning and a solo homer in the second, the Javelinas responded with a strong offensive second, putting a pair on the board to cut their deficit in half. Sophomore DP
Dakota Martinez and senior first baseman
Kaylynne Ruiz hit back-to-back doubles, with the second of which scored the first for TAMUK's first run of the game. Then, sophomore shortstop
Anabella Ramirez sent a sacrifice fly deep into centerfield, scoring the team's second run.Â
Though the Javelinas struck again with a solo homer in the third from Evans, the game stayed at a stalemate until the sixth inning, where the Patriots broke it open to take a dominating win.
TAMUK then struggled to get its bats warm in game two, producing just three hits and leaving all five of its base runners stranded. Freshman left hander
Esther Martinez posted a solid outing, throwing a complete seven innings while giving up just four earned runs.
The team will now look forward to its final home games of the season, when the Javelinas host the Pioneers from Texas Woman's on Senior Day in a 1pm doubleheader where TAMUK will honor its four graduating seniors in between the day's games.
