Kingsville - Despite two strong performances on the mound, the Texas A&M - Kingsville softball team struggled to produce offensively, falling 1-7 and 0-4 in a doubleheader against the Cameron Aggies on Sunday.
The team put up one run on six hits across the doubleheader, falling to 18-21 overall and 13-15 in Lone Star Conference play.Â
The Javelinas' lone run came in the bottom of the third inning in game one when senior first baseman
Kaylynne Ruiz reached on an error, scoring freshman third baseman
Alexis Soliz from third. Junior outfielder
Shelbie Peal and graduate student outfielder
Lindsey Evans each went 2-3 with a walk in game one, leading TAMUK offensively. Despite a four-hit, nine-strikeout game from freshman pitcher
Arianna Alaniz, Kingsville left 11 on base, leading to the loss.
Game two turned into a pitchers duel, as freshman pitcher
Esther Martinez pitched a complete game, giving up just three earned runs on six hits and two walks. Though the Javelinas put multiple runners in scoring position throughout the game, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunities, and came up short.
The team has a split weekend ahead of it, as it heads on the road for a Friday matchup with TAMIU in Laredo before returning home to play TAMIU once more in a noon doubleheader on Sunday.
