San Angelo - Plagued by offensive struggled, the Texas A&M - Kingsville softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with Angelo St. on Friday, losing 2-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two.
Fresh off of a Lone Star Conference pitcher of the week performance last week, freshman
Arianna Alaniz has another stellar showing, pitching all six innings of game one for Kingsville. She allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out 11, moving her into the top five in the conference in total strikeouts.
TAMUK, however, struggled to give her run support, producing just one hit and four total baserunners in the game. Two of those baserunners, including the team's only hit, came in the top of the seventh, but with the go-ahead run in the box for the Javelinas, Angelo's stellar pitching finished the game.
Game two saw Kingsville's offense open up significantly, producing eight hits and one run, a
Victoria Mosqueda RBI single in the top of the seventh.
Seleste Compian put together a multi-hit game for the Javelinas, going 2-4 and behind left on base twice.
Kristina Nash and
Andrea Martinez split the game in the circle for TAMUK, each pitching three innings. Nash started the game, giving up four hits and two runs, while Martinez game up six hits and three runs. Martinez struck out four of the 14 she faced.
The Javelinas will have another doubleheader showdown with a ranked team on Sunday, when they play against No.22 Lubbock Christian in a pair of games that are set to start at 1 p.m..
