Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not keep up with reigning Lone Star Conference champions Dallas Baptist University as it fell, 71-105, Thursday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (3-3, 0-1 LSC) allowed the Patriots (5-4, 1-0 LSC) to hit 15-three pointers on 36 attempts as well as a 58-point second half to drop their LSC conference opener. Texas A&M-Kingsville also had an uncharacteristically high turnover game, giving the ball up 18 times.
In half number one, the Javelinas were able to hang around the Patriots and even took an early lead thanks to a driving-layup from
TJ Ford Jr. DBU responded very quickly however, hitting back-to-back three pointers to retake a three-point lead. The Javelinas would then hover around a 10-point deficit before
James Livingston hit a big and-one three pointer to bring the lead down to six.
The Javelinas kept the game at around a six-point differential before DBU scored eight-straight points in the final minute of the first half to go into the break with an 11-point lead. DBU would not relinquish that lead into the second half, as a 12-2 run with 13:35 left in the second half blew the game wide open for the Patriots as the Javelinas could not recover.
Ford Jr led the way with 18 points on 50 percent shooting.
Bryson Goldsmith scored 13 points and
Jadon Sautter finished with 11. Goldsmith and Sautter both finished with a team-high five rebounds while
Bryce Smith finished with eight assists.
