Alpine, TX. - Texas A&M-Kingsville continues its western road trip as it takes on Sul Ross State on Saturday at Pete P. Gallego Center.
The Javelinas (8-10, 4-8 Lone Star Conference) are set to face the Lobos (3-14, 2-10 LSC) for the first time since the 2011 season, where Texas A&M-Kingsville took down Sul Ross 88-74 in Kingsville. Previous to this meeting, the two teams had not faced off against each other since the 1976-77 season.
Despite managing just 68 points per game offensively, the Lobos offense has explosive capabilities. Scoring 82 points against the third-ranked Texas A&M-International defense on Thursday. Perhaps a more impressive performance was on Jan. 17, when Sul Ross erupted for 110 points, the most in conference play this season, against Eastern New Mexico.
Leading this offensive charge is Ethan Yancy, who's 44 points against Eastern New Mexico are the most by any player in the LSC this season. The senior from Houston is averaging 17.6 points per game on 42.9 percent from the floor.
The Javelinas will look to the play of sophomore
Zyon Little to help them in this contest. Little is averaging 8.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and is given the opportunity to guard all levels on the floor, whether it be in the post or on the perimeter.Â
As a whole, the Javelina defense has been a strength all season, especially at forcing opponents into mistakes. Texas A&M-Kingsville ranks top-five in the conference in assist to turnover ratio with a plus-3.50 ratio. Additionally, the Javelinas do not give their opponents many extra possessions, committing the second least amount of turnovers in the conference this season.
Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 3:00 p.m. CST with the game being streamed on Flosports. Fans of the Javelinas can follow live coverage through live stats or at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
