CANYON, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team took on the host institution and number one seed West Texas Lady Buffs in their second matchup of the LSC Tournament where they would fall 8-2.
This one wouldn't get going until the bottom of the second where the Lady buffs would put together a walk, single and double steal to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. A SAC fly would get the first run of the game home and a SAC bunt would get another across putting the Lady Buffs up 2-0 heading into the third inning.
The Javelina offense would get runners on but would have trouble getting them across all game as the third would see an
Anissa Lechner single and a
Breana Carr walk and stolen base before going down and sending things into the bottom of the third.
Two singles and two steals would put runners on second and third with no outs before a double to right center would put a run across, Lady Buffs in front 3-0 now. Another RBI single would put it at 4-0 before a steal of home would send things into the fourth with the Lady Buffs on top 5-0.
Hero of the first game of the day,
Dakota Martinez would be the only offense via a two out walk, before things would go into the bottom of the fourth game still in the hands of West Texas 5-0.
A triple and a ground out would put another run across for the Lady Buffs as it would become a 6-0 game heading into the fifth.
The top of the fifth would see the Javelina offense wake up as
Anissa Lechner would lead off the inning with a single up the middle.
Breana Carr would walk putting two on with one out in the inning before
Kayla Gonzales would single to left getting both
Carr and
Lechner home, cutting into the lead 6-2.
The bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth would see both squads go down in order taking things to the bottom of the sixth with the Lady Buffs still leading 6-2.
An RBI single would see West Texas score another run pushing the lead to five at 7-2 before a ground out would see another run come across 8-2 now the score.
The last chance for the Javelinas would see
Lechner lead off the inning with a walk before going down in order ending the game as well as the Javelinas time in Canyon for the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
