Javelinas split day with Texas Woman’s in Doubleheader Matchup

TAMUK drops first game 1-2 but takes second game 7-1 verses Pioneers

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team hosted the Texas Woman's Pioneers where they would drop game one in a nail-biter 1-2 and take game two 7-1.

Game 1

The game wouldn't truly get started until the third inning as the first and second would see both squads going down in order until the bottom of the third where the first hit would be recorded by Anissa Lechner. She would then advance on a ground out and the Javelinas would have a runner on second with only one out. Breana Carr would single to shortstop before putting two runners on with one out allowing Lindsey Evans to single up the middle scoring Lechner and putting the Javelinas up 1-0 heading to the fourth.

The Pioneers still having trouble getting going would go down in order to send things to the bottom half where the only offensive production would be an Aaliyah Ortiz walk.

The top of the 5th would start out with a bang as the Pioneers would knock a home run to dead center tying the game 1-1 before sending things to the bottom half of the fifth.

Seleste Compian would start things in the bottom of the fifth with a one out single and would steal second but would not come around to score and the score would remain knotted at 1 heading to the 6th.

The Pioneers would again start another inning with a leadoff home run putting them up late 2-1 as the Javelinas would come to bat in the bottom half.

Dakota Martinez would be the only offense in the bottom of the 6th as she would single to left center with two out in the inning but be stranded on base as the game would move into the 7th.

The seventh would see no offense as both squads would go down in order ending the game 2-1 Pioneers in front.

Game 2

The second game would see much more offense immediately as the Pioneers would load the bases with a single, an error, and a walk before a strikeout and a ground out would send things to the bottom half with no damage done.

The Javelinas would get the bats hot early as Carr would single and steal second to lead off the inning, followed by an Evans single up the middle which would score a run on a fielding error by the Pioneers. Kayla Gonzales would reach on an error and Ortiz would walk loading the bases for the Javelinas early with no outs. After a couple of fly ball outs Rylee Oborski would draw a walk which would bring in a run Javelinas up 2-0. Anissa Lechner would follow things up with a single through the left side scoring one more run before the inning was over sending things to the second Javelinas up 3-0.

The top of the second would see the Pioneers go down in order to keep the score 3-0 and send things to the bottom of the 2nd.

Breana Carr would single up the middle to start things out for the Javelinas then steal second, but on the steal the ball would be thrown away allowing Carr to come home making it 4-0 as the game headed to the third.

Same story for the third as the Pioneers would see a one, two, three inning and move the game right along into the bottom half.

Dakota Martinez would single to left and Oborski would walk but both would be stranded as the inning would end and the game would move to the fourth.

Signs of life from the Pioneers would see a two out single down the line but nothing more as the game would move into the bottom of the 4th Javelinas still up 4-0.

Carr would start the inning out reaching on an error and would advance to third on two ground outs. Ortiz would single up the middle with two out bringing in another run making it 5-0 and Martinez would single to left putting two on with two out. Kaylynne Ruiz would double to left center scoring both, pinch runner Alexis Ramirez, and Martinez all the way from first making it a 7-0 game heading into the 5th.

A one out double to left center would start things out for the Pioneers before a ground out would advance the runner to third. A two out single would score a run and the Pioneers would avoid the shut out going into the bottom half with the score 7-1.

Carr would knock a two out single in the bottom of the fifth but would be stranded as things progressed to the 6th.

The top of the 6th would be a three up three down inning and the bottom would only see an Ortiz single sending things into the final frame where the Pioneers would go down fighting.

A leadoff single would be followed by two fielders' choices and a walk putting two on with two out in the inning. A pop out however would end things and the Javelinas would take game 2 7-1 splitting the day with one game apiece.

The Javelinas look to take the series next time out as they will face the Pioneers for the series finale at 12:00 PM CST at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
