Javelinas win 5th straight taking two games from Texas A&M-International

TAMUK takes both in doubleheader matchup with Dustdevils

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville Softball Team took on the Texas A&M International Dustdevils where they would come out on top in both games of a doubleheader matchup 2-0, and 9-2.

The Javelinas dominated the diamond again on their home turf looking to stay undefeated at home next time out.

Game 1

The game would start off fast with the Dustdevils going three up three down before the Javelinas would start off strong with a Seleste Compian walk and advance to second on a wild pitch putting a runner in scoring position early with one out in the inning. With two outs in the inning the Javelinas would load up the bases with an Aaliyah Ortiz, and Lindsey Evans walk. No run would come across however as a flyout would end the inning and send things into the second.

Nothing doing in the top half for TAMIU as they would only get on runner on via the walk before the bottom half would see the Javelinas take off. Mariah Vasquez would start the inning off with a single to right before being drove in by Anissa Lechner who would double down the line. Compian would single to the left side but would be caught stealing before a flyout would end the inning sending things to the third with the Javelinas up 1-0.

Three up three down top half, would send the Javelinas to the plate where Evans would extend the lead to 2 with a homer to right center.

The Dustdevils would break the no-hitter as they would single to left getting a runner on but only getting a baserunner as far as second. Nothing doing in the bottom half as the Javelinas would go three up three down sending things to the fifth.

Another silent top half would see something similar in the bottom as the only activity in the fifth was an Ortiz walk before sending things to the sixth with a groundout.

A single up the middle would start the Dustdevils out in the top half of the sixth trying to rally back, and a swinging bunt would get her to second before a line out to pitcher Beth Montes would turn into a double play at second sending things to the bottom half. The Javelinas would go thee up three down heading to the final frame still up 2-0.

The inning would start out with a single, followed by another single with one out in the inning. Another single would load the bases with one out, but a fielders choice would see a heads up play by Ortiz throwing home to prevent the run, followed by a pop out to Ortiz ending the game 2-0.

Beth Montes was outstanding in the circle as she pitched a complete game shutout allowing 5 hits and striking out 4 only putting on one via the walk.

Game 2

The second game would start off with the Javelinas continuing their defensive dominance setting the Dustdevils down in order bringing up the bottom half quickly. Freshman Anabella Ramirez would get the start in game two and would immediately get things going in the bottom half being hit by the pitch. She would move up to second via a wild pitch, and would soon be accompanied on the basepaths by Kayla Gonzales who would walk putting runners on first and second with one out in the inning. An Ortiz single would load the bases for Lindsey Evans who would knock in Ramirez for the Javelinas getting a run on the board early allowing TAMUK to send things to the second with the lead 1-0.

TAMIU came out swinging in the second as a double down the line would immediately put a Dustdevil in scoring position. That would be wiped almost immediately as a fielders choice would erase the lead runner setting the Dustdevils back with a runner on first with one out. A walk would put two on with one out, but a double play would see Gonzales snag a line drive and step on second for a double play sending the Javelinas to the bottom half still up 1-0. The Javelinas would also start the inning swinging as Lechner would double to right center, and be moved over via the SAC bunt by Rylee Oborski putting a runner on third with only one away. Breana Carr would get the RBI this time knocking in Lechner with a single sending things to the third with the Javelinas up 2-0.

The Dustdevils would make some noise with two outs singling up the middle and swiping a bag, but ultimately would get sent to the bottom half in four batters. The Javelinas would again begin another inning getting a runner on with Ortiz drawing the walk, followed by a Kaylynne Ruiz single up the middle. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch giving the Javelinas a prime opportunity with two runners in scoring position with only one out in the inning. It would be Dakota Martinez who would capitalize driving in Ortiz with a double off the wall to right extending the lead sending the Javelinas to the fourth up 3-0.

The fourth would see the Dustdevils once again jump on the Javelina pitching early singling up the middle and center putting runners on first and second with nobody out in the inning. A walk would load the bases with no outs, and a single to center would score one sending things to the bottom half with the Dustdevils on the board still trailing 3-1. Ramirez would come back to bat, to once again be hit by the pitch getting things started for the Javelinas early in the inning. Carr would single putting runners on first and second before Gonzales would fly out to right moving Ramirez to third. Ortiz would also fly out but this time it would be a SAC fly as Ramirez would come home on the play. Carr would steal second, and Evans would walk, but a fielders choice would end the inning sending the game to the fifth Javelinas up 4-1.

Nothing much doing in the whole fifth inning as the Dustdevils would get a single to left and nothing else, and the Javelinas would go down in order, score still locked at 4-1.

The Dustdevils would get hot as they would come out in the sixth with a double to right followed by a single to left putting runners on second and third early with no outs in the inning. A SAC fly would get another run across but that would be it as a ground out and pop out would stop the Dustdevil momentum sending things to the bottom half still down 4-2. Ramirez would again step up to the plate, and again get on base this time sparing herself as she was simply walked and not hit by the pitch like her prior two appearances. Carr would double to right advancing Ramirez to third before an Aaliyah Ortiz home run would clear the bases and add three to the lead, putting the score at 7-2 Javelinas on top with one out in the inning. Two out in the inning and Jackie Garza would grab a bat off the bench, doubling to left field for a little two out Javelina rally. Dakota Martinez would once again make an impact homering to center adding two more to the Javelina lead all with two out in the inning. Sammie Saenz would enter the game as well and would single up to middle but a ground out would kill the two out rally, Javelinas would head to what they hoped would be the final frame of the day up 9-2.

The Dustdevils would continue to fight down 7 singling and being able to get runners in scoring positions via two errors on the Javelinas behalf. The bases would be loaded with two outs but Beth Montes would slam the door shut ending the game and sending the Javelinas home winners 9-2.

The Javelinas look to pick up their second consecutive series sweep tomorrow with the first pitch slated for 1:00 P.M. at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.
