Abby Bala inks with Javelina Women’s Basketball

The junior joins TAMUK after a pair of seasons at Missouri Western State

KINGSVILLE, Texas- Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball coach Michael Madrid announced the newest squad edition as 5'7" guard Abby Bala officially signed her letter of intent on Tuesday.

"We are excited for Abby and her family to join our basketball program," said coach Madrid on the newest signee. "Abby has experience at the D2 level, having played in the MIAA and Elite Eight while at Missouri Western. She has a tremendous basketball IQ and will complement our style of play in many ways. Thankful she chose to be a Javelina!"

A native of Katy, Texas, and a graduate of Cinco Ranch HS, Bala transfers to TAMUK following two years at Missouri Western State, where she appeared in 55 games, including five starts. Bala posted 183 points as a member of the Griffins, sinking shots at a 38.97% clip. Additionally, she dished out 47 assists, swiped 17 steals, and recorded nine blocks for MWSU.

Bala also got the job done in the classroom, being named a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic Excellence Honoree and to the MIAA Honor Roll in each of her two seasons. She was a Presidents List selection every semester at MWSU as she maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in Kinesiology.

She was a standout performer at Cinco Ranch, claiming 6A District 19 Offense MVP honors in 2021 and appearing on the All-District First-Team. Bala led her squad to a 13-7 record as a senior, helping the Cougars to their first playoff win in six seasons while averaging 18.0 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 1.9 APG, and 2.9 SPG. She was also an incredibly efficient shooter, hitting 42.5% of the shots she took, including 35.4% from beyond the arc and 76.9% from the charity stripe.
