TYLER, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team came short twice in the team's twin bill on the road against the No. 3 team in the country in UT Tyler on Tuesday.
The Javelinas (22-24, 19-19 LSC) kept the first game of the day close before falling to the Patriots (48-4, 36-2 LSC) with a three-run home run in the first making the difference in the game, before being run ruled in six innings, 10-1 in the back half of the doubleheader.
Game One
UT Tyler flexed its muscles in the first inning launching a three-run home run down the left field line to take an early lead.
From there, the game became a pitcher's duel with neither TAMUK's Beth Montes or Tyler's top pitcher Taylor Goff allowing a run till the sixth inning as only three runners from either team reached base till then.
In the top of the sixth, the Javs offense threatened to score as Shelbie Peal produced an infield single to lead off the inning, later stealing second.
With two outs, junior Breana Carr singled through the left side as Peal came around to score but was thrown out at the plate by the Patriots' center fielder.
The Patriots extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single to center field going up 4-0.
Junior Aaliyah Ortiz cut into the deficit with a solo home run to center field, but the Javs were unable to find any more offense losing, 4-1.
Game Two
TAMUK jumped out to the early lead in game one, as junior Kayla Gonzales brought Carr around to score with an RBI double to right center in the first inning before Tyler responded with an RBI triple and two-run home run in the bottom half of the opening frame.
The Patriots tacked on two more runs courtesy of two solo homers in the fourth and the fifth, and tacked on four more in the sixth ending the game at 10-1 on a two-run shot to left.
