LAFAYETTE, La. - The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team, dropped both games of its opening day double header from the Mardi Gras Invitational on Friday.
The No. 6 Javelinas (0-2), lost their first game to the Oklahoma Baptist (2-0) Lady Bison, 6-0, before falling later in the evening to Mississippi College (2-0), 10-0.
Game 1: Oklahoma Baptist – 6, TAMUK – 0
The Javelinas dropped their season opener to the Lady Bison on Saturday afternoon, as the Javelinas were outscored, failing to get across a single run in the loss.
OBU, got its first runs of the game in the second inning, as Adi Reese scored on a Javelina infield error to break the deadlock, 1-0.
Later, the Lady Bison scored two more as Reagan Ford brought two more runs in on an RBI single.
The scoring concluded as Jocee Sparks singled one more run home to put OBU up, 4-0 early.
TAMUK looked to answer quickly in the top of the third, getting two runners into scoring position with only one out, before consecutive strikeouts ended the Javelinas' opportunity.
One inning later, OBU scored two more runs on a single to center field bringing TAMUK's deficit to six, and it stayed that way ending 6-0, in favor of OBU.
Kayleigh Jones (1-0) got the win for the Lady Bisons throwing a complete game shutout, only giving up four hits while striking out 11 batters.
Carissa De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss for the Javelinas giving up six runs on six hits and four walks, while only getting one strikeout through four innings pitched.
Game 2: Mississippi College - 10, TAMUK – 0
The Lady Choctaws started their scoring in a unique way in the third inning, stealing home to break the 0-0 tie.
Two batters later, a two-run homerun saw MC take a 3-0 advantage over the Javelinas.
MC, added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning, scoring on a two-RBI single, a sacrifice fly, and a fielder's choice.
Three more runs in the seventh saw the Choctaws stretch their lead to 10 where the game finished.
Lizette Del Angel (0-1) took the loss for TAMUK in just two innings pitched giving up three runs on five hits.
UP NEXT
TAMUK will take on Union and Harding tomorrow at 4:30 and 7 p.m. as part of day two at the Mardi Gras Invitational.
