KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball earned a convincing, 11 point senior day win over Cameron on Saturday afternoon inside the Steinke Physical Education Center.
The Javelinas (19-9, 13-7 LSC) were in control nearly wire to wire being led by junior guard Dillon Gooding who posted a team-high 18 points going 7-of-12 from the field.
Along with Gooding three other Javs recorded double-digit points including, C.J. Smith and seniors Creighton Avery and Sammy Brooks with the trio posting 13, 12, and 11 points respectively.
As a team, TAMUK shot 47.5 percent from the field going 28-of-59 including shooting 12-of-28 from three-point range.
Defensively, the Blue and Gold held the Aggies to only 25 percent from the field as they went 7-of-27.
TAMUK dominated the first half stretching its lead out to 17 points as a Gooding layup at the 9:15 mark pushed the score to 32-15.
Isaiah Payne capped off the half for the Hogs with a pull up jumper with under a minute left taking the lead to 19 at 47-28.
The Javelina lead grew to as much as 21 with 12:57 left as Avery converted a layup in transition off a CU turnover.
The Aggies did not go quietly however shooting 53 percent in the second half which helped them cut the deficit down to single digits late in the second half.
The Javs' lead was cut down to seven with 2:58 remaining, but consistent free throw shooting by the Blue and Gold secured the win.
