Javelinas take on Horned Frogs in Exhibition

TAMUK drops exhibition game 86-46 to TCU

Fort Worth, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team took to the court in Fort Worth, Texas for an exhibition matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs meeting for the fifth time in the programs histories and the first time since 1981.

"Proud of our team tonight and the effort they gave versus a quality coached team." said coach Michael Madrid. " We used this opportunity to grow and feel it will help us later down the season. To play against high level players in an environment as electric as this is something we cannot simulate in practice. We are grateful to the TCU staff for this opportunity. Look forward to our next opportunity".

Junior Jayde Tschritter lit up the scoreboard for the Javelinas this time out with 21 points, going 5-9 from beyond the arc and 7-11 from the field. Senior Georgia Ohiaeri led the day in rebounds with 7 and Aina Maynou led the day in assists with 5.

TAMUK shooting a 33.3% from the field, and 25.9% from beyond the arc also shot 62.5% from the free throw line, having 25 rebounds and 14 total assists on the day.

The Javelinas came out of the gates strong in this one as Jayde Tschritter got the scoring started early on the day for the Javelinas with a three within the first minute of play putting the Javelinas out front 3-2. After a 6-0 TCU run Tschritter got the scoring going again with a pair of free throws putting the game at 5-8 Horned Frogs in front. The game stayed close until roughly the 5:22 mark in the game where TCU went on a 7-0 run putting the quarter at 8-18 with 3:47 left. TAMUK would score one last time in the quarter on an Ohiaeri layup making it 10-18 before the Horned Frogs went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter 10-27.

The second quarter once again saw the Javelinas get going early with a Tschritter layup once again within a minute of the start. Both squads would go basket for basket until Abby Bala sank a jumper on the Javelina fast break making it 33-16 with 7:29 to go in the quarter. This, however, would be the last Javelina points in the quarter as TCU went on a 16-0 scoring run sending it into halftime at 49-16.

TCU would open the second half continuing the scoring run making it a 25-0 run before an Ohiaeri layup stopped the run with 7:07 left to go in the quarter. The Javelinas would go on a 19-9 run of their own from that point on outscoring the Horned Frogs in the quarter 19-18, sending it to the fourth and final quarter with a score of 67-35.

The Fourth saw battle basketball as no runs could get started with each team going basket for basket the largest run being a 6-0 TCU run ending by way of a Mia Rivers layup putting the game at 80-43 with 2:31 left in the game. The Javelinas and Aina Maynou particularly left Schollmaier Arena making one last mark and leaving an impact as she hit the buzzer beater three which put the final at 48-86

The Javelinas are back out in Division 1 action again next time out taking on the University of Texas El Paso Miners at the Don Haskins Arena Tuesday November 14th at 8:00 PM CST.
