Javelinas serve up Thanksgiving appetizer with win over Our Lady of the Lake

The Hogs led wire-to-wire in the home opener on Thanksgiving eve

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead in the first half and did not look back, cruising to a 72-55 win over the Our Lady of the Lake Saints on Wednesday evening.

With the victory, the Javelinas (2-3, LSC 0-0) snap a three-game losing skid and open up the home schedule for the 2023-24 season in the win column. The game was classified as an exhibition for the Saints and does not count against their record.

The Hogs never trailed in the matchup, getting on the board first and extending the lead to almost double digits within the first ten minutes of the game. The lead was pushed to 10 with 7:10 remaining in the first half off a Zyon Little three-pointer and never dipped lower from there – stretching to as much as 24 in the second half.

It was a free-for-all on the stat sheet as almost every Javelina collected at least one basket, including seven players finding paydirt from behind the arc. Additionally, 11 Javelinas grabbed at least one rebound and 10 dished at least one assist.

Kendrick Washington led the team in rebounding on the night with four total boards while also adding eight points and three assists. Andre Walker II led in assists with four of his own alongside five points and three rebounds.

Isaiah Payne and Zyon Little tied in scoring for the Javs with both totaling 12 points. Little also grabbed three total rebounds and two assists while Payne snagged a steal on the defensive end.

Overall, the Javelinas shot 45.6 percent from the field including going 10-of-29 from three-point range. The Hogs were also much improved in free throw shooting on the night, going 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

UP NEXT

The Javelinas get a much deserved weeklong break before getting back to action against Angelo State on Nov. 30 at the SPEC. It will be the opening of conference play for the Hogs as they look to defend their LSC division title. It will also be Faculty Appreciation night.
