KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team hosted Senior Day Saturday where they Swept the Cameron Aggies three sets to none (25-15, 25-15, 25-19).
The Javelinas (19-9, 11-5 LSC) came into Saturday after dropping a five-set match against the #5 West Texas Lady Buffs limiting them to only a .083 hitting percentage.
"Today was a great way to end the regular season" said head coach
Tanya Allen-Gonzalez. "I'm proud of our seniors and I can't wait to see what this team can do in the post season!"
The Javelinas ended the day with a .352 hitting percentage and 8 blocks while limiting the Aggies to a .141 hitting percentage and 4 blocks on the afternoon. Senior outside hitter
Jackie Alanis shined for the Javelinas on senior day having a team leading 9 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, the highest percentage on the day for anyone over 15 attempts.
Set one began with the Javelinas coming out of the gates rattling off 3 straight points starting the match up 3-0, before the Aggies went on a run of their own bringing the set within one 6-5. The Javelinas took off once again going on a 5-1 run making the score 11-6 before another run by Cameron made it withing three at 13-10. The Javelinas then put their foot on the gas going on a 7-2 run making it to 20 first putting the score at 20-12. The Javelinas began scoring in two's until coming to the end of set one 25-15.
Set number two saw another dominant Javelina performance, after the Aggies came out strong leading the set 5-3. The Javelinas dialed up a 5-0 run regaining the lead making it 8-5. The Javelinas would not give up the lead as the Aggies were knocking on the door with the set at 13-10 before the Javelinas went on a 7-0 run putting the set at 19-10. Both squads would go point for point near the end until the very end where the Javelinas were able to rattle off two straight ending the set 25-15.
The third set saw both squads battling as there were 9 ties and 7 lead changes, primarily through the early and middle parts of the sets. Both teams battled to the 13 all point before the Javelinas went on two 3-0 runs putting the set at 19-15. Cameron would not relent as they went point for point with the Javelinas until the 21-18 point where the Javelinas took two in a row, making it 23-18, then again at the 23-19 point ending the match as a three set sweep.
