Javelinas number six in Preseason Polls

TAMUK sixth in the conference for second season in a row based on LSC preseason rankings

RICHARDSON, Texas — On Monday, the Lone Star Conference released its annual preseason poll, with the Texas A&M-Kingsville Women's Basketball program projected at number six, receiving 492 points.
 
The Javelinas were picked sixth for the second season in a row, following a season in which they made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed, boasting a 18-11 overall record, going 15-7 inside conference play. 
 
The squad features 9 returners, including Preseason Player to Watch Mia Rivers, who was a 2022-23 All-LSC Third Team selection after averaging 10.0 points per game and having the second-best assist total in the conference, posting 142 total assists on the year putting her average at 4.9 per game.

Along with Rivers, the Javelinas bring back eight players including Senior and All-LSC Third Team selection Georgia Ohiaeri. Juniors Veyda Lake, Janessa Payne, All-LSC Honorable Mention Jayde Tschritter, and Sophomores Alyssa O' Malley, Shelby Ray, Bella Sipowicz, and Devon Williams. Additionally, the Javelinas bring three newcomers to the squad in, Aina Maynou, Brooke Lechleitner, and Abby Bala who all look to provide an immediate impact as transfers.
 
The voters picked Angelo State to repeat as conference champions, receiving 652 total points and 15 first-place nods. Texas Women's was slotted second with 17 first place votes and 633 total points, while UT-Tyler was selected third with 627 points, and 9 first place votes. preseason favorites. 
 
The 42nd Lone Star Conference women's basketball championship tournament is scheduled March 7-10, 2024, played at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The eight-team bracket includes the East and West Division winners, who automatically receive berths, with the remaining qualifying teams and all seeds based on results versus all LSC teams.
