"I thought we were pretty solid," said coach Michael Madrid. "The way we're able to share the ball, it's a matter of who can contribute, we've got a lot of depth and a lot of really good players, and it's a matter of who's playing well that particular night and tonight we were fortunate that a lot of them were playing well."

The Javelinas (14-6, 6-3 LSC) bested the Hilltoppers (11-1, 4-7 LSC) by 20-points in a genuine team effort, with every Blue and Gold athlete who saw action contributing in the scoring column.

Junior Mia Cherry (Brock, Texas) led the way with a 13-point outburst in 12 minutes on the floor, at a 66.7 percent shooting clip. Additionally, freshman Mia Rivers (College Station, Texas) got the job done on both ends of the floor, scoring 11, with five assists, four steals, a block. Sophomore Kryslyn Jones (Edmond, Oklahoma) and freshman Devon Williams (Gonzales, Texas) each put up nine points, with the latter recording eight rebounds and a block.

Additionally, junior Brianna Pena (Weslaco, Texas) continued her stellar run of form, pulling down six boards to go along with seven points and four assists.

The teams traded baskets early in the contest before back-to-back triples by freshman Jayde Tschritter (Corpus Christi, Texas) sparked a Javelina run that allowed them to take a 19-13 lead through the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter began with five-straight Blue and Gold points, increasing TAMUK's margin to nine. The Toppers answered back quickly, hitting a pair of triples and a free throw to pull them within two. The Javelinas spent the rest of the period rebuilding their lead with big shots by Rivers and Cherry, affording them a 38-29 halftime edge.

All nine of Jones's points came in the third quarter as she hit three shots from beyond the arc as she and the Javelinas kept the Toppers at arm's length before pulling away and outscoring SEU 18-11 in the final frame.

The Javelinas will be back in the SPEC for a Saturday afternoon showdown against the St. Mary's Rattlers in their annual throwback game.
