Jackson, Estrada help Javelinas complete perfect weekend

TAMUK reaches 4-0 for the third straight season

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Junior Kailey Estrada (San Antonio, Texas) rattled off 13 kills and freshman Ayanna Jackson (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in with 12 for the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's volleyball team in a 25-19, 19-25, 25-11, 25-23 victory over the Anderson Trojans on Saturday evening on the final day of the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational in San Angelo, Texas at the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

The Javelinas finish the season's first weeked with a perfect 4-0 record, the third straight year they've accomplished that.

Estrada's 13 kills came on 21 attacks with only one error for a .571 hitting percentage while Jackson swung at a .400 clip. Freshman Allison Stachowiak (Brownsville, Texas) logged 10 kills. TAMUK's leading setter was junior Emily Witt (Rose Hill, Kan.), who tallied 38 assists, junior Nicole Murff (San Antonio, Texas) topped the leaderboard in digs with 16 and sophomore Jackie Alanis (Brownsville, Texas) accumulated 15 scoops.

The trio of Jackson, Estrada and Alanis helped the Javelinas take the opening set, as they combined for 14 kills while all hitting above .400. Multiple shots from Jackson and Alanis helped the Javelinas put together a 9-2 run that changed the score from 11-10 to 19-13. The Javs spent the rest of the frame keeping the Trojans at arms-length before finishers by Jackson and then Alanis provided the 24th and 25th points.

After dropping the second set, the Javs immediately responded by winning the first six points in the third, two of them coming via Stachowiak kills. TAMUK then stretched their lead to 12 with a 7-0 burst that included two Estrada shots and the Javs never looked back after that, closing the frame on another Estrada kill. TAMUK hit .393 in the set as a team.

The Javelinas led for all of the fourth set, at one point going ahead 16-11 after kills from Alanis and senior Alexa Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas), but the Trojans refused to allow their opponents to pull away. Three times they slashed their deficit to one before tying the score at 20. Two straight Blue and Gold scores then edged the Javs in front 22-20 and that margin proved to be enough as the teams alternated points until an AU attack error put the final point of the day on the board.
