KINGSVILLE, Texas - Returning to a normal routine, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball program embarks on a 27-game schedule for the 2021-22 season in early November as head coach Michael Madrid begins his third year at the helm of the program.
"We are thankful for the opportunity to step on the floor with an incredible group of young women," said Madrid. "We are looking forward to seeing the growth of this team game-to-game with the intent of becoming the best basketball team we can become."
The Javelinas unofficial season opener takes the program to Lafayette, La., to take on Louisiana on November 9. The actual season opener takes place later that same week with a home game against Chadron State on November 12 at the Steinke Physical Education Center. TAMUK last squared off with the Eagles at the LSC/RMAC Crossover to open Madrid's first year as head coach in 2019-20, which turned into the first win of his tenure by a score of 63-57.
The Blue and Gold make a trek north the following week to the Centennial State to take on UC Colorado Springs on November 19 in Colorado Springs, Colo., before visiting MSU Denver the following afternoon on November 20 in Denver.
Another home non-conference date awaits TAMUK on November 24 with Western Oregon paying a visit. The Javelinas then head to San Antonio the day after Thanksgiving to take on Minnesota State on November 26 and East Central on November 27.
Four non-conference games against league opponents are on deck starting in the beginning of December with UT Permian Basin on December 2 and Angelo State on December 4. Following a week off, the program returns to action on the road with matchups against St. Edward's on December 18 and St. Mary's on December 20.
The Lone Star Conference opener is slated for December 31 as the Blue and Gold host 2021 NCAA Division II National Champion Lubbock Christian at the SPEC. Reigning in the New Year two days later, the Javelinas host Eastern New Mexico on January 2 to open the 2022 portion of the campaign.
The final home game of the season is set for February 19 with Texas Woman's coming to town, while the regular-season finale takes place the following week with a trip to Cameron on February 26.
