LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggies jumped out to a 6-1 lead and tacked on seven runs in the last two innings to stave off a comeback attempt from the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team in a 14-8 Aggie victory on Saturday in Lone Star Conference action at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla.
This defeat snaps what had been a four-game Javelina win streak and drops the Blue and Gold to 19-10 overall and 18-10 in LSC play. CU improves to 8-30 overall and 8-24 in the LSC.
The Hogs got on the board first thanks to a first-inning RBI double off the bat of junior Will Arnold (Magnolia, Texas), but a pair of homers in the bottom of the frame propelled the home team into the lead, 2-1. CU upped their lead to 6-1 in the second, putting together a rally that began with consecutive walks and included four straight hits.
Each side pushed one across in the third before the Javelinas found their stroke at the plate again in the fifth. Two singles started the frame and after a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly brought in one run, senior Seth Spinn (Holland, Texas) ripped an RBI triple into left-center to pull the Javs within 7-4. Spinn crossed the plate one batter later on Arnold's second hit of the afternoon.
After the Aggies scored twice in the seventh, senior Kohl Ullman (Houston, Texas) brought TAMUK back within pair by launching a two-run tater in the eighth, but a five-run Cameron bottom of the eighth put the game out of reach.
One game remains on the regular season schedule for each team and it will serve as the rubber game of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
