Javelinas roll past Lincoln, 51-21

TAMUK broaches 50-point barrier for the first time in 2021

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville football program hosted Lincoln (Calif.) for the final non-conference matchup of the 2021 season at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium on Saturday.

The Javelinas (3-3) established an early lead over the Oaklanders (1-6) and never let off the gas en route to the 51-21 final.

The Hogs started the scoring after redshirt sophomore Christian Anderson (Cypress, Texas) punched the ball in from one yard out on the opening possession. TAMUK added a 24-yard connection from graduate student Shane Johnson (Houston, Texas) to senior Amonte Bowen (Donna, Texas) later in the frame, while a one-yard scamper from classmate Josh McGowen (McAllen, Texas) punctuated the quarter for a 19-0 cushion heading into the second.

The visitors tallied their first score early in the quarter with a one-yard touchdown run from Cameron Burston before Shane Johnson tacked on a 20-yard rushing score for the hosts at the 5:45 mark for a 26-7 lead that held true at the half.

Anderson pushed across another Hog touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter from 10 yards out to start the scoring coming out of the locker room. LU responded with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Burston to Calvin Green near the five-minute mark, while redshirt freshman Roger Hagan (Houston, Texas) responded with a 21-yard rushing strike near the end of the stanza for a 39-14 advantage going into the fourth.

An interception from junior Cory McMahan (Austin, Texas) in the closing seconds of the third preceded a 34-yard rushing score from redshirt senior Saevion Johnson (Houston, Texas) to start the final frame. The Oaklanders came back on their next drive for a 14-yard rushing touchdown of their own, matched by redshirt freshman Rod Hudson (North Little Rock, Ark.) one drive later with 10:11 remaining.

Both sides traded drives from that point en route to the final at 51-21.

The Javelinas resume the Lone Star Conference schedule next week when they head out on the road on October 23 for a matchup against Western New Mexico with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CT in Silver City, N.M. at Ben Altamirano Field.
