Javelinas Record First Season Sweep

Texas A&M-Kingsville dominates behind Gabby Atchley's first career double-double

SAN ANGELO, Texas – In a complete team effort, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-0) downed Limestone College (0-3) 25-13, 25-9, 25-10 at Stephens Arena Saturday morning.

In what was the first sweep of the 2017 season for the Javelinas, they completely dominated the Saints for their third win, while Limestone still searches for its first. Outscoring its opponent 75-32, TAMUK's offense was outstanding as they registered 46 kills on a season-best .406 hit percentage. Defensively, they held LC to a -.10 attack percentage and totaled five blocks.

Gabby Atchley turned in a career-day in Blue and Gold as she gathered 13 kills, 11 digs, and two blocks. Krystal Faison, Haley Hutchinson, and Madison Brabham each garnered seven kills and Lexi Wick struck six times while leading the way with three blocks. Kelby Sprinkles matched her career-high of four kills all in the second set and Casey Klobedans finished with 36 assists, six digs, two kills and two blocks.

Set 1
The Javelinas had their angles on point as they opened the match with an 8-2 lead behind eight kills.  Overall, the team hit .357 with just four attack errors in the 25-13 win. In what was a routine set, Atchley took over, finishing with six kills followed by Brabham's four.

Set 2
TAMUK continued to apply pressure against its opponent as they jumped out to a commanding 17-3 lead. Limestone had no answer for the Hogs stout defense as they chronicled just two kills on a -.167 hit percentage. Sprinkles led the way with four kills which matched her career-high in the 25-9 route.

Set 3
The Saints led for the first time in the match when Victoria Norwood claimed the first point in the third stanza. However, the lead was short lived as the Javelinas found themselves ahead 14-4. Atchley hit .500 on four kills followed by Faison and Brabham who had the same percentage on three kills. TAMUK won the set 25-10.
