LAWTON, Okla. (Baseball) – Preston Plovanich gave us just three hits in game one but the Aggie pitching was just as dominant in Cameron University's (28-18, 9-10 LSC) 1-0, 5-2 doubleheader sweep over #RV/26 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (31-15, 16-7 LSC) Saturday afternoon at McCord Field.
GAME ONE
Christian Caudle doubled in the top of the seventh to put the tying run in scoring position but Javaris Banks closed the door on the comeback attempt, going the distance in the 1-0 victory.
The Cameron solo shot in the second was enough to propel the Aggies to the one-run win. Banks (6-3) struck out seven in the shutout, while Plovanich matched the right-hander with his fifth complete game of the season as the southpaw struck out eight and allowed just three hits. However, Plovanich fell to 6-3 on the year.
WIN-LOSS RECORDS
Plovanich and Banks went head to head in a pitcher's duel that needed just one run to decide the ballgame. Despite picking up the loss, Plovanich tossed his league-leading fifth complete game.
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cameron took a 3-0 lead with a run in each of the opening frames. The Javelina offense got things rolling in the top of the fourth with back-to-back base knocks for
Jimmy Roche (bunt) and Caudle, bringing the tying run to the plate.
A bases loaded wild pitch in the inning gave Kingsville its first run of the day and made it 3-1 in favor of the Aggies.
CU scored two in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to four.
Roche picked up his second hit of game two, a double to right, to begin the sixth.
Pablo Hernandez's double two batters later cut TAMUK's deficit to 5-2.
WIN-LOSS RECORDS
Isaiah Lybarger allowed five runs – three earned – and struck out four in 5.0 innings but fell to 5-3 in 2017. In his first start of the season and second appearance, Matt Glasmann improved to 1-0 with six strikeouts in the complete game.
Shane McCarley tossed a scoreless frame.
