Stefano a Triple Shy of the Cycle in Series Finale

Outfielder went 3-for-3 with two RBI

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Baseball) – Dallas Stefano fell a triple short of the cycle, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBI in Sunday's 9-4 loss to No. 8/3 Angelo State University (26-8, 8-3 LSC) at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (20-10, 6-2 LSC) split the regular season series versus the Lone Star Conference preseason favorite.

The four-run second was highlighted by the outfielder's second home run of the season and the lefty reached base safely in all four plate appearances in the matinee game.

Kohl Ullman went 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot and Alex Gonzalez was 2-for-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Angelo State got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Javelinas chased starter Kenton Schroter out of the game, the dagger coming off the bat of Stefano, who's two-run shot gave TAMUK a 3-2 lead.

Pablo Hernandez doubles down the left field line and Gonzalez followed with a single. After Alec Kana plated one run on a fielder's choice, Stefano drove the first pitch he saw to put the Hogs in front 3-2. Payton Geisinger drew a four-pitch walk and a pitching change brought the same result for the Javelinas as the right fielder came around to score on Ullman's double.

After giving up the two first inning runs, Zach Wilson settled down and tossed four scoreless until the sixth, when an error opened up the ASU comeback. The Rams scored three runs in the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Angelo State tacked on four more in the seventh to extend the lead to 9-4.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Wilson fell to 2-2 on the year after allowing five runs in 5.2 innings. Shane Browning (1-1) picked up his first victory of 2017 with eight strikeouts and 5.1 innings in relief of Schroter.

NEXT UP
The Javelinas return to Nolan Ryan Field for a five game home stand, beginning with an LSC series versus Eastern New Mexico University Thursday-Saturday.
