Caudle Goes Yard, Hernandez Reached Safely Streak Hits 23

Javelinas fall in opener 4-2

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Christian Caudle hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2 but #RV/25 West Texas A&M University (30-11, 11-4 LSC) overcame stranding 10 runners on base to take game one from No. 21/26 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (29-11, 14-3 LSC) 4-2 Friday evening at Nolan Ryan Field.

Caudle's home run was his first of the season and Pablo Hernandez reached base safely for the 23rd consecutive time, finishing 1-for-2 with a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Buffs got rolling early with a run on three hits in the first inning but the Javelinas knotted things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a strategic stolen base opportunity by Alex Gonzalez, allowing Hernandez to score from third.

In the fourth, Chad Brown went yard but Caudle followed in the bottom frame with a solo shot of his own, his first home run of the season.

Seth Hubert continued to deal but WT was able to regain the lead with two runs in the seventh to go up 4-2.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Hubert fell to 7-2 on the year after allowing four runs in 6.0+ innings. Nick Masarik tossed 1.2 scoreless and Jako Kelm retired the lone batter he faced. Hunter Lehman threw a shutout ninth.

Marshall Kasowski (8-3) picked up the victory with 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Dominic Yearego was credited with his second save of the season in 2.0 innings.

NEXT UP
A doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field between the Javelinas and Buffs.
