#RV Baseball Blanks Falcons, Remain Atop the LSC

Winning streak reaches eight

ODESSA, Texas (Baseball) – The Javelinas put together video game esque performances in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (8-32, 1-14 LSC) 15-0, 11-0, at Roden Field. With the wins, #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (28-10, 13-2 LSC) has won eight in a row and are 17-3 in its last 20 games.

The back-to-back shutout performances by Preston Plovanich and Isaiah Lybarger mark the first time TAMUK has blanked its opponent on the same day since March 8, 2015, when Kingsville defeated Cameron University 8-0, 1-0.

GAME ONE
Much like yesterday, the runs came early and often with an offensive onslaught in the game one victory.
Hunter Perkins finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI, Alex Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Pablo Hernandez went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Levi Zents reached safely in all five plate appearances with four base hits and three runs scored and Christian Caudle concluded the first game 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and four runs.

Kohl Ullman's three-run shot in the sixth was his first collegiate home run. The reigning Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored and Dallas Stefano finished 2-for-2 after entering the game as a pinch hitter. Combine the 18 hits with a eight-strikeout performance on the rubber for Plovanich, the Javelinas won their seventh consecutive ballgame, 15-0.

Plovanich improved to 6-1 on the year with his fourth complete game of the season.

The Javelinas tallied three runs in the opening frame, all with two outs. Hernandez's single brought home Caudle and two batters later; Gonzalez plated two on an opposite field single.

In the second, Kingsville collected five runs on five hits, the highlight coming off the bat of Perkins, who doubled to clear the bases.

Perkins continued to rake, picking up his second double of the ballgame, extending TAMUK's lead to 10 in the top of the fourth.

Hernandez's single in the fifth made it 11-0 Javelinas and a four-run sixth, capped by Ullman's three-run blast put the Hogs in front 15-0.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Plovanich (6-1) tossed his fourth complete game of the season with a four-hit shutout. The southpaw continues to provide big innings for the Hogs. Jake Albert (0-6) picked up the loss after allowing eight runs in 1.2 innings.

GAME TWO
Zents went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Roche and Stefano went yard and Lybarger punched out eight in a four-hit shutout to lead Kingsville past the Falcons 11-0.

The efficient right-hander from Corpus Christi needed just 88 pitches to go the distance. Perkins and Hernandez picked up two hits apiece and each drove in two, Roche finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, including his fourth long ball of the season, and Ullman scored three runs from the leadoff spot.

A&M-Kingsville got on the board in the second on an RBI single by Perkins. The following inning, Zents brought home Roche to make it 2-0 TAMUK. In the fifth, the Hogs added two more after Ullman and Roche successfully swiped to advance into scoring position and Hernandez plated the top of the lineup on a single.

The huge inning came in the sixth, when the Javelinas scored six runs on four hits, two coming via the long ball as Stefano blasted a solo shot and Roche followed Ullman's walk with a two-run shot.

Lybarger continued to deal and clinched the series win for TAMUK with the 11-0 shutout victory.

WIN-LOSS RECORD
Lybarger improved to 5-2 on the year with the eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Nate Dominguez fell to 0-3 after giving up four runs in 4.2 innings.

The Javelinas and Falcons conclude the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
