KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Seven pitchers combined for a two-hit 10-0 shutout Tuesday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field as No. 17/22 Texas A&M University-Kingsville improved to 11-0 in 2017.
With the loss, Our Lady of the Lake University fell to 8-12.
RECORDS
Nick Masarik (1-0) struck out two in 2.0 innings.
Sebi Palacios,
Trey Taylor,
Jako Kelm,
Nich Hutchison,
Shane McCarley and
Tyler Crouch each tossed scoreless innings.
Caleb Mireles (1-3) was hit with the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – in 1.2 innings.
WHAT COACH SAID
"It was good to get guys live action," said head coach
Jason Gonzales. "They pounded the zone and it was crucial for us to throw these guys with our schedule changes."
BIG HITS
Hunter Perkins went 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI in his second game from right field.
Alec Kana – who entered as a defensive replacement for
Pablo Hernandez – went 3-for-3 with an RBI and
Alex Gonzalez added two runs and two hits.
Joshua Croft continued to anchor the Javelina offense from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
HOW THEY SCORED
Dallas Stefano's RBI single in the first brought home two to put Kingsville on the scoreboard. The second inning blew the game open with one swing of the bat as Perkins cleared the bags with a three-run double in the left-center gap.
As relievers entered the game, the results were the same as the Saints bats were silenced by the Hogs, who walked just one hitter all afternoon.
Two more runs came in the third and the seventh and eighth ended the ballgame early as Kana's single in the eighth to put A&M-Kingsville ahead 10-0.
