Seven Pitchers, 16 Hits Lead to 10-0 Shutout

Javelinas improve to 11-0

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Seven pitchers combined for a two-hit 10-0 shutout Tuesday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field as No. 17/22 Texas A&M University-Kingsville improved to 11-0 in 2017.
With the loss, Our Lady of the Lake University fell to 8-12.

RECORDS
Nick Masarik
(1-0) struck out two in 2.0 innings. Sebi Palacios, Trey Taylor, Jako Kelm, Nich Hutchison, Shane McCarley and Tyler Crouch each tossed scoreless innings.

Caleb Mireles (1-3) was hit with the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – in 1.2 innings.

WHAT COACH SAID
"It was good to get guys live action," said head coach Jason Gonzales. "They pounded the zone and it was crucial for us to throw these guys with our schedule changes."

BIG HITS
Hunter Perkins
went 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI in his second game from right field. Alec Kana – who entered as a defensive replacement for Pablo Hernandez – went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Alex Gonzalez added two runs and two hits.

Joshua Croft continued to anchor the Javelina offense from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

HOW THEY SCORED
Dallas Stefano's RBI single in the first brought home two to put Kingsville on the scoreboard. The second inning blew the game open with one swing of the bat as Perkins cleared the bags with a three-run double in the left-center gap.

As relievers entered the game, the results were the same as the Saints bats were silenced by the Hogs, who walked just one hitter all afternoon.

Two more runs came in the third and the seventh and eighth ended the ballgame early as Kana's single in the eighth to put A&M-Kingsville ahead 10-0.

NEXT UP
The Javelinas hit the road to take on West Texas A&M University in a four-game, nonconference series.
