KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) – Jimmy Roche went 2-for-5 with four RBI,
Pablo Hernandez had three hits and two RBI, and
Levi Zents and
Alec Kana registered two hits apiece in #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (17-7) 12-3 victory over St. Mary's University (12-16) Thursday evening at Nolan Ryan Field.
The nine-game home stand concluded with the Javelinas extending their win streak to six after scoring seven of their 12 runs in the seventh and eighth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
St. Mary's took a 2-0 lead after two errors allowed the Rattlers to strike first in the top of the second. The Hogs responded with two runs in the bottom frame to tie the game at 2-2.
Hunter Perkins walked to begin the bottom of the inning, Zents and Hernandez followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Kana's single brought home the two Kingsville runs.
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Hogs plated three in the fifth. Perkins doubled down the left field line,
Christian Caudle scored on a wild pitch and Hernandez drove in a run on a single to put TAMUK in front 5-2.
The big inning came in the seventh with five runs on five hits and A&M-Kingsville added two more for a nine-run cushion in the bottom of the eighth, getting one back after StMU scored one in the top of the eighth.
Tyler Crouch came in the ninth and tossed a scoreless top half to end the game.
WIN-LOSS RECORD
Nick Masarik improved to 2-0 in his second start of the season, going 5.0 innings. The right-hander allowed two runs – both unearned – and struck out two. Perkins went 3.0 innings and Crouch went struck out one in an inning of work.
For the Rattlers, starter Holden Grounds (3-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs in 6.0 innings.
NEXT UP
A schedule change features the Hogs and Rattlers facing off for the final time in the regular season tomorrow at 4 p.m. Game two begins approximately 30 minutes later.
